Carving Calm in Creative Chaos

With five creatives under one roof, chaos is never far away. This family—made up of a cook, a painter, a musician, and two emerging artists—needed their townhome to function as both an artistic sanctuary and a welcoming place for community and family. In a home brimming with creative energy, carving out individual sanctuaries helps keep this household grounded and connected.

Floorplan

Floor plans of a three-story house, detailing rooms including bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, kitchen, dining room, and outdoor space on each level.

The Formal Living Room

As the central hub of the home, the formal living room honors its storied history through restored wainscoting and seating arrangements inspired by traditional interiors. Two distinct seating clusters encourage intimate conversation while maintaining an open, welcoming feel.

Living room with green walls, three floral-patterned sofas, a marble fireplace with a large mirror above, two table lamps, a chandelier, large window, wooden floors, and a patterned area rug.

The KITCHEN

Situated at the back of the house, the kitchen serves as the private heart of the home. A generous transitional dining room connects it to the rest of the house, creating an ideal space to gather, host, or safely experiment—culinary or otherwise—away from the main living areas.

Modern kitchen with white island counter, three green bar stools, wooden cabinets, large arched windows, plants on shelves, and pendant lights.

The Livestreamer’sBedroom:

A cozy bedroom with pink walls, a bed with beige and white bedding and pink blanket, large window with white curtains, neon smiley face lights on the wall, and a desk with a computer and art supplies.

Lights, camera, stream. This teen’s bedroom is a whimsical retreat designed for gaming and digital art livestreams. A thoughtfully placed desk and a window-side storage bench create two flexible setups for content creation, supporting both creativity and comfort.

A cozy bedroom with pink walls, a large window with white framed panes, a pink tufted bed with a pink blanket, and a beige fuzzy rug. There's a pink sofa with panda and geometric patterned pillows, and a wall grid with photos and small blue planters.

The Musician’s Bedroom:

Designed to reflect the young adult musician who occupies it, this bedroom makes a bold statement with contemporary elements and expressive details. Floor-to-ceiling acoustic panels allow for creative exploration and late-night jam sessions—without disrupting the sister next door.

A cozy bedroom with a large bed covered in white and orange bedding, two bedside lamps emitting warm light, a large abstract painting in shades of yellow and orange on the wall, tall windows with sheer white curtains and heavy yellow drapes, a guitar leaning against the wall, and a patterned yellow and white rug.

The Studio

Overlooking the garden and greenhouse below, the studio is immersed in natural light and inspiration. The space includes a dedicated painting area, abundant storage, and room to create freely. Antique details—such as patterned wallpaper and vintage-inspired light fixtures—add warmth and lend a subtle transitional character to the room.

A cozy room with a wooden table, four cream-colored chairs, a pink laptop, headphones, and a cup. The wall features framed art prints of modern art and famous painters. An easel holds a landscape painting, and a large window-sized canvas displays a colorful scene. A vase of daisies sits on the table, and the room has floral wallpaper, hardwood floors, and a decorative ceiling light.
